Elm Lane International Holdings Inc (ELI) was established in 1995 during a period when many overseas firms were first looking closely at conducting business in the Chinese mainland. Identifying a need to help these companies achieve their strategic goals in China, ELI was founded by the husband and wife team of James Wang and Alice Childs. They began ELI by providing services that created an effective bridge between companies operating in both Europe and mainland China. The core business then, as now, was to provide investment, trading and government relations advice. While additional services have been added over the years, along with the number of companies that have been served, the direction of trade now goes both into and out of China, unlike the early days when it was only foreign firms interested in entering China.
